Allow 24-48 hours for prescription refills. Call the pharmacy where you filled the prescription; the pharmacy will send a request to your doctor for a new authorization if you do not have any remaining refills.

Because insurance plan requirements vary, please contact your insurance company to determine if a referral is necessary.

Laboratory results are sent to the doctor who requested your laboratory test. Often, you will receive a call from the nurse or paperwork in the mail. If not, you may call your doctors' nurse and request results.

A physician assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed health professional who practices medicine under the supervision of a physician. Physician assistants and Nurse Practitioners provide a broad range of health care services that were traditionally performed by a doctor. As part of a team with a physician, PAs and NPs exercise considerable autonomy in diagnosing and treating illnesses.

NPs and PAs at Dickson Medical Associates are certified in their specialty area. Both nurse practitioners and physician assistants are recognized as expert health care providers. They serve as the regular health care provider for children and adults during health and illness. In order to provide complete health care, NPs and PAs:

  • Take health histories
  • Perform physical examinations
  • Order x-rays and laboratory tests
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests
  • Establish diagnoses
  • Treat and manage patient health problems
  • Administer immunizations and injections
  • Instruct and counsel patients
  • Provide continuing care to patients in home, hospital, or extended care facility
  • Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals as needed
  • Perform minor surgery
  • Provide preventive health care services and promote positive health behaviors
  • Act as first or second assistants during surgery
