When I started my nursing career 30 years ago I did so to be able to give back to others what someone gave back to me. My dad suffered a stroke and during his hospital stay I met a nurse that had lost his arm in a car accident. The care that this nurse provided was amazing and I told myself then I wanted to be able to do the same. The work he did with my dad was unbelievable to watch. He never let missing an arm slow him down. When I was in college finishing up my RN degree one on my instructors told my mom and dad that I was not finished. I looked at her laughed and said nope I am done. Several years latter a was ask to go back to get my Master’s with a friend of mine, so I filled out my paperwork went to the mailbox and told God if this is what he wanted he would allow it to happen. God knew before me that I needed to be a Nurse Practitioner and I sure am glad he led the way. This is one of the most promising careers I could have, because I get to see people change on a daily bases. When I see that change it makes me know that I have done my job.
