Anna Szczuka, M.D. is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Born and raised in Poland, Dr. Szczuka acquired her medical doctorate degree from Blalystok Medical School, specializing in the areas of anesthesiology and ophthalmology. She was an instructor at a teaching hospital in Poland prior to coming to the United States with her family in 1989. She attended Cambridge School in New York where she mastered the English language and earned her medical license. Dr. Szczuka completed a three year internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Staten Island, New York. She completed her academic career and achieved her board certification in Internal Medicine in 1998.
Dr. Szczuka’s desire to work in an under-served area led her to the rural community of Centerville, Tennessee in Hickman County where she worked full time in private practice and as an attending physician in the Emergency Department of Baptist Hickman Community Hospital for four years. She was appointed as Chief of Medical Staff of Baptist Hickman Community Hospital and served in this capacity from 2000 to 2002. Prior to joining Dickson Medical Associates in 2005, Dr. Szczuka worked as a hospitalist at Tristar Horizon Medical Center. Through the years, Dr. Szczuka has fondly become known as “Dr. Anna” to her patients, colleagues, and friends. She has served as a shareholder and member of the Dickson Medical Associates’ Board of Directors since 2010. Her professional memberships include the American Medical Association, Tennessee Medical Association and American College of Physicians.
Dr. Anna’s practice focus includes adult Internal Medicine, with an emphasis on diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and preventive care. She is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, infections, diseases affecting the heart, blood, kidneys, digestive, respiratory and vascular systems. She strives to maintain good communication and mutual respect with her patients since these factors are essential in a doctor-patient relationship.
When Dr. Szczuka isn’t caring for patients, she enjoys music and yoga. She loves to visit her family in Poland and teaching her children and grandchildren the values of her heritage.
