The decision to close the Mobile Testing Unit for good was approved and the last day of operation for the MTU will be Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
DMA centralized COVID-19, flu and strep testing at the Mobile Testing Unit, which began operation on August 3, 2020. Patients that presented symptoms such as upper respiratory issues, fever, nausea, diarrhea, altered taste or smell, sore throat, shortness of breath, body aches and chills, and confirmed or possible COVID-19 exposure were swabbed and visited with a health care provider, all from the safety of their own vehicle. Since that day, over 20,000 patients have been tested at the MTU site.
Patients presenting acute upper respiratory symptoms will report to South Express Care. They will be swabbed at the COVID-19 testing entrance around the corner from the South Main entrance, and sent to their vehicle to wait for the test results and further instructions. If the patient has a negative test result for COVID-19, they are free to walk into the clinic and wait for their provider visit. If the test is positive for COVID-19, the patient will be seen car side or via telehealth.
